What it requires to successfully pursue a Ph.D. position

• Strategic talk to a supervisor. What would you want to achieve during a conversation? After having a conversation, establish a shared document and shend it to the supervisor.
• Respectful, gentle but not submissive.
• Self-driven.
• Exercising presenting skills - sometimes even more important than the content!
• Cumulative writing skills.
• Don't be afraid to say no when you need to as you are usually expected to work more and the professor usually don't know the specific workload.
• Make friends.
• Sometimes criticism is not personal but for improvement.
• Diversify by developing multiple viable strategies to address a specific question.
